Time Class Instructor(s) 10:30am–11:45am Must Know Jazz. Bethany stayed up all night writing a long list of jazz steps that she thinks every Stompology dancer should know! Many you'll know, some you won't, and Bethany will not only show you how the basic step should be done, but different ways you can style each one and how to make them your own. Let's see how many we can get through in one class! Bethany 12:00noon–1:15pm Ballin' the Jack. Ballin' the Jack as a dance and a popular tune has its roots stretching back to the 1910s, and headline dancers were performing their interpretations of it well into the 1950s (Judy Garland and Gene Kelly in the 1942 film For Me & My Gal, Dean Martin in That's My Boy in 1951, and even Danny Kaye in On The Riviera in 1951). It was introduced to the public in the 1913 show Darktown Follies at the Lafayette Theatre in Harlem, the show that is said to have - in the words of James Weldon Johnson - triggered "the beginning of the nightly migration to Harlem in search of entertainment." Learn Sharon & Juan's take on this must-know jazz-age dance! Sharon & Juan 1:15pm–2:30pm Lunch Break 2:30pm–3:45pm Soft Shoe. This soft shoe tap class was inspired by Frankie Manning's son and tap dancer extraordinaire, Chazz Young. Mike 4:00pm–5:15pm Mike, Sharon, Juan, and Bethany all come together for a final spectacular class.
